Administration: Efficient and effective administrative processes are essential to ensure smooth day-to-day operations, transparent governance, and well-managed resources.

Safety & Security: Creating a safe and secure environment is paramount, requiring proactive measures to address concerns and collaborate with local authorities for the well-being of residents.

Community Pride Projects: Initiatives that promote community pride and enhance the neighbourhood’s aesthetic appeal can foster a sense of belonging and collective ownership.

Intercultural Relations: Building strong intercultural relations within the neighbourhood promotes diversity, inclusion, and understanding among residents, creating a harmonious and vibrant community.

 

Administration

Financial Management:

  • Responsible for budgeting and financial planning to support community initiatives.
  • Tracks income, expenses, and ensures transparency in financial matters.

Marketing and Communications platform:

  • Promotes the association’s activities and events to engage residents.
  • Attracts new members and strengthens community involvement.
  • Serves as a central point for disseminating information within the neighbourhood.
  • Keeps residents informed about important developments, issues, and updates.

Membership Management & Record keeping:

  • Maintains a database of members and their contact information.
  • Facilitates communication and engagement among residents.
  • Maintains records of past decisions, financial transactions, and community history.
  • Helps ensure accountability and transparency in association operations.

Legal Compliance:

  • Ensures the neighbourhood association complies with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Avoids legal issues that could jeopardize the association’s existence.

Safety & security

Crime Prevention, Education & Support:

  • Offer community-wide crime prevention education and resources.
  • Increase awareness of prevention tools and resources available to all residents, businesses, and agencies in Mangaung.
  • Assist residents, businesses, and stakeholders with safety reports.
  • Foster partnerships with private security firms and Community Police Forums (CPFs).

Community Safety through Environmental Design:

  • Collaborate with registered waste pickers for environmental projects in each suburb.
  • Enhance public spaces and streets with increased solar lighting.
  • Strengthen by-law enforcement, addressing issues such as street hawkers and spaza shops, based on community input.
  • Improve environmental conditions for better visibility, including maintaining parks and pruning trees.
  • Support homeless shelters to discourage homelessness in residential areas.

Increase Policing Participation:

  • Support approved security partners within the neighborhood.
  • Expand CPF membership for neighborhood patrols, serving as “eyes and ears.”
  • Work to reduce police response times through partnerships with security companies and CPF members.

Community Pride Projects

Roads, Verges & Sidewalks:

  • Identify Roads in Need of Maintenance:

Regular assessments can help prioritize areas in most urgent need of repair.

  • Advocate for Maintenance and Solutions:

Advocate for improved maintenance and safety measures on roads, verges, and sidewalks, emphasizing the importance of road safety for residents.

  • Educate Neighbours on Refuse Collection and Recycling:

Support and collaborate with local recycling initiatives, encouraging residents to reduce waste and participate in recycling programs.

Intercultural Relations

Promote a culture of understanding

  • Develop engaging and fun ways to introduce people to and explore diversity of cultures, but also gender and sexuality, abilities, etc.
  • Gain support from the community and advocate for more safe spaces in Mangaung for groups at risk.

Explore community-led solutions to social isolations

  • Provide a space open to all in the community to connect in meaningful ways, where everyone is safe and respected.
  • Support and develop programming for low-income adults, seniors, with an effort on reconciliation and relationship building between Indigenous people and newcomers.
  • Ensure access to positive recreation opportunities for all youth, including newcomer and gang involved youth.

Celebration of community and diversity

  • Organize and promote community events for all in the community, that celebrate the Central community diversity.
  • Develop and support fun recreation opportunities through sport, games, to bring people of all ages and backgrounds together.
